LATEST PLANE CRASH IN NIGERIA: HIRED PLANE THAT CONVEY FORMER GOVERNOR REMAINS CRASH IN LAGOS



A few minutes ago, a private plane allegedly owned by Associated Airlines crashed at Aviation Estate, Mafoluku, Oshodi-Isolo way, Lagos.
According to reports, 20 people are feared dead. The body of the former Governor of Ondo State Olusegun Agagu who died in September after slumping in Lagos, was also allegedly on board. Mr. Agagu was to be buried tomorrow (11 a.m.), while a lying-in-state was to be held today in Akure.
Eyewitnesses say the crash happened at the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed airport, close to the section where JET-A1, plane fuel is stored. The aircraft is said to have crashed as it took off.

Latest news  from the scene of Thursday morning’s air crash at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos indicate that former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu’s wife and son and Chief Olu Falae's first son, Deji Falae have been confirmed killed by officials.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Femi Oke-Osayintolu, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria that 11 passengers died while four others have been hospitalised. There were 20 persons onboard the plane at the time it crashed.
Immediately news of the crash filtered into Akure, the venue of the lying-in-state for the late governor, Democracy Park, was deserted.
The Associated Airlines passenger plane conveying the remains of the former and some family members to the state capital, Akure, crashed on Thursday morning near a fuel dump located at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
The plane was on a chartered flight to Akure Airport and was conveying Agagu's corpse and some members of his family when the incident occurred
.
However, unconfirmed reports have it that the owner of MIC Casket, Mr. Okusanya was also onboard and is feared dead also reported to have been on the flight is, Gbenga, a son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
There were 20 passengers onboard when the plane crashed at the local wing of the airport close to the section were JET-A1, plane fuel, is stored.
Fire service officials are at the scene.
An aircraft with the body of a former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, on board, crashed in Lagos on Thursday morning less than a minute after take-off from the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja. The EMBRA plane 120, with other 20 passengers on board, was conveying the body of the former governor, who died a week ago, to Akure, the state capital, for the final burial ceremonies.
The 30-seat plane, belonging to Associated Airlines, was said to have crashed around 9.20am immediately after take-off into the compound of a private firm, around the MMIA access gate.

Residents around the area told confirm that the plane exploded mid-air before coming down. As of the time of filling this report, five of the passengers had been rescued out of the 20 on board. The passengers, report claimed, could be relations of the late governor. Rescue operations were still ongoing. No official statement had been made by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, but the spokesman for the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Yakubu Datti, confirmed the crash.
