The Nigeria medical association (NMA)
threatening to shut down the Nigeria health sector if their demand are not responded
to by the government. The 5days build up or warming strike which commenced
yesterday 18 December 2013 is staged to force the government to consider it
request for needed reforms in the sector.
Ezone gathered that, this strike
has paralyzed health delivery service in all the state in the country. For instance
in Ondo state, medical doctors in public hospital also complied with the
national warming strike. The doctors were not on duty but nurses and their
supporting staff were on ground to attend to the patients. Also in Edo state,
there is a full compliance in all the general hospitals. Quoted from press
released by the vice chairman Nigeria medical association, Edo state branch, Dr Sunday Yerimo explained that,
Nigeria medical association need total transformation, he further stressed that
government should provide the needed finances to train workers and upgrade it s

According to information
available to us at Ezone, the association last ultimatum issued to government
expired on Sunday, 14 December, 2013 and the association is insisting that
there is no going back on their demands
Dr. Osahon Enabulele, the association president after their meeting
with the union members on Sunday said Nigerians need to rise up to their responsibility,
demand answers to some of these issues that are confronting Nigeria governing
system, he reiterated that, we cannot have a government that says they are
building up yet they seem to be in slumber over issues that affect fortune,

The association demand government
to invest more in health sector through universal health fund and to sponsored
hospital development and intervention fund (HDIF). In order for the health
industry to provide modern and world class health delivery service to Nigerians

We hope that this strike will not
match with ASUU strike. In order to safe poor Nigerians who do not have money
to embark on medical check up and health attention abroad. I think concern authority
has to resolve this matter fast, God safe Nigerians from day to day strike in
all sectors of their daily in life.
